Listen to your feet and this podcast: "These Shoes are Killing me!"

A fascinating podcast from Freakonomics Radio...Feet 101 with a professor of human evolutionary biology at Harvard, a professor in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School, a curator at the Bata Shoe Museum and a podiatrist to professional athletes.

The human foot is an evolutionary masterpiece, far more functional than we give it credit for. So why do we encase it in “a coffin” (as one foot scholar calls it) that stymies so much of its ability — and may create more problems than it solves?

STEPHEN DUBNER:  Have you ever had people come to you who want their foot surgically altered so that they will fit the fashionable shoes they want to wear better?

HOWARD OSTERMAN: Once a week.

OSTERMAN: And I’m a podiatrist in the Washington D.C. area.
