The giving season is not only a chance to show love and appreciation, it’s also an opportunity to purchase with purpose.
When shopping with a women-owned company, not only are you helping to improve women’s economic opportunities, but you are also helping to improve the overall economy. Currently, there are roughly 12.3 million women-owned businesses in the United States, with the latest Census data showing that they produce roughly $1.8 trillion in sales each year. But similar to the challenges faced by women in corporate America, women entrepreneurs face gender and racial biases that hinder their ability to succeed.
In 2021, women-owned companies in the U.S. received just 2.4% of the total capital invested in venture-backed startups, according to Pitchbook, with women of color receiving even less. And when looking at access to loan options, studies show that women entrepreneurs across every industry are offered smaller loans with significantly higher interest rates than men.
